Origin Story

The Bias Brief was conceived from a spark of insight during an executive meeting. As we discussed the impacts of media bias and the importance of transparency in news consumption, a transformative idea emerged: to create a public platform that not only showcases top trending news articles but also reveals the underlying biases through our advanced technological lens.

This initiative began as a means to demonstrate a fraction of the powerful technology behind GERA. We envisioned a space where the public could see the lean direction and bias scores associated with main stream news, promoting a deeper understanding of media influences.

As TBB evolved from a side comment to budding platform, we expanded our vision to include features that cater to diverse user preferences, support educational outreach, and encourage interactive engagement. Our commitment is to deliver a standardized view of bias in news coverage, helping users navigate the complex landscape of media with clarity and critical insight. At The Bias Brief, we believe in fostering media literacy and providing the tools necessary for our users to discern truth in the age of automation.

Join us on our mission to illuminate perspectives and elevate public discourse—one article at a time.

Today’s News

On our “Today’s News” page, The Bias Brief (TBB) connects to our Azure Dataverse via sophisticated plugins to visually showcase bias in news reporting. Given the vast amount of data being processed and analyzed, load times may vary.

Before you begin please take a look at how we are presenting the data.  This key will help you understand what information each row is providing. You can also Drag & Drop each row to rearange and compare articles side by side.

For a deeper dive into how we calculate our scores head over to our “Process” page.

Future Plans for TBB

Our ongoing development includes exciting new freemium features to enhance user experience. We are working on introducing a mobile viewing option for better accessibility, expanded interaction functionalities for more engaging content exploration, and a unique side-by-side comparison feature that displays the same story from different sources to highlight diverse perspectives. Additionally, an RSS feed will be implemented for seamless news integration, alongside a social media sharing function to facilitate easy dissemination of information. We are also adding basic statistics to provide quick insights at a glance.

Furthering our commitment to providing value, our subscription service is set for significant expansion. Subscribers will soon have access to refined statistics for deeper data insights and a robust search function to navigate our extensive content library. In-depth analysis features will allow for more comprehensive understanding of news events, and time period selection will enable users to explore historical data contextually. The introduction of an API connection, along with JSON and CSV export options, will cater to technical users looking to integrate and analyze our data within their own systems. These enhancements are designed to not only enrich the user experience but also to provide tailored tools for advanced data interaction and analysis, solidifying TBB as a leader in balanced news aggregation.
